weekend away in Reghin

Last Saturday one of my students from my Reghin class invited me to stay with her for a weekend and so this weekend I took her up on her offer. I’m so glad I did because I needed the time away from my "normal environment" I’m always in, to get away and relax. Around 7:30pm I took the Maxi taxi to Reghin on Friday evening. My student’s name is Gabriela and I stayed with her and her son Radu this past weekend. I felt like she really spoiled me but it was great to spend time with them! Gabriela has a cat and her cat had six tiny kittens three weeks ago. It was such a treat to spend the weekend with her cats! I really miss my cats at home!

On Friday evening I spent it with her and her son. Some people from the church came to her house to pray for her because she didn’t feel well all day. What a blessing that people from the church came to pray for her and also encourage her! I think it’s so wonderful how close her church is! They are like family which is what the church should be like! I also taught her son Radu how to play the card game UNO. Radu doesn’t speak English so it was quite interesting communicating with him this weekend in Romanian!

On Saturday I just relaxed at her house. I will have a Romanian test on Tuesday so I studied most of the day for that test. Gabriela taught me how to make clatite (crepes). Clatites is one of my favourite Romanian desserts and I served them at our teacher/staff social evening on Sunday. We made strawberrry and chocolate filled ones. hmmmm!  It was fun to make them and I definitely want to make them again!

Then I went to church with Gabriela on Sunday morning. I really enjoy going to the church in Reghin because I know students from the English classes Either and I teach there on Monday and Wednesdays. It was a great weekend and I even got to practice my Romanian too!

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go.
