day in Sighisoara

On Saturday June 16, I spent the day in Sighisoara with my friend Selina who I met through church. Selina works with YWAM and she also invited two of her friends who works at the YWAM base in Sighisoara to join us for the day. It was great to have Christina and Livu join us!
We took the maxi taxi to Sighisoara which was about an hour drive from Targu Mures, which is south east of the Tg Mures. The drive to Sighisoara was beautiful because we drove through mountains and the city itself is located in the mountains too! It was the first day since I have been in Romania that I can honestly say I felt like a tourist because I took so many pictures and I went to all of the tourist spots – we went to the citadel, went up the clock tower, walked through an older cementary and went to some other sights. I also saw quite a few tourist groups there and I even saw a Chinese group which surprised me!
Sighisoara is a beautiful city and it has a lot of history to it. If you know of the story of Dracula. You might know he is from Romania and you might have heard of the hollywood story of "Count Dracula, the Vamprie". The first part is right, he is fom Romania (he was born in Sighisoara) but he wasn’t a vamprie! Hollywood has twisted his story so much that even I didn’t know who he really was like! His real name was Vlad Tepes and he lived in the 15th century. There was war going on at that time and so he protected the city from it being attacked. By protecting the city he impated people who tired to attack it and so he then got the name Vlad impater – Dracula. Here’s a site that might be helpful to read if you are interested in learning more about the true story behind who Dracula is –
For lunch we decided to get pizza. Selina told me how good the pizza is in Sighisoara but I just had to see for myself! She was right the pizza was delicious! Afterwards we went to the YWAM base to relax for a bit. We just got there right in time because it downpoured when we got inside! It has been so hot here in Romania lately but it also has been raining a lot!
This is my first time to be in Romania and meet so many people who work with YWAM. I had no idea YWAM was so big here! They have eight bases here (well the one in Bucharest is just starting up), in Cluji, Medias, Sighisoara, Constanta, Timisoara, Targu Mures and Iasi! They also have around 100 staff here in Romania and most of them are Romanians, wow! It’s exciting to connect with other missionaries in the city I’m living in here.
We left to go back to Targu Mures around 6pm. What a great day!
