first haircut, painting & kids

This week was my first week "off" since I have been in Romania but it definitely didn’t feel like a "off week" at all because I was constantly busy! When I got to Romania in April and moved into my apartment the first thing I noticed was the ugly blue sticky tack on two of my walls in my bedroom. The first weekend I got in my apartment I decided to clean my walls to get rid of the sticky tack but when I cleaned the walls I was taking the wall with me! Afterwards I noticed the areas where I cleaned and saw all of these spots on the wall. It was terrible and I knew the only way to really get rid of the uglyness is to paint over it. It seems like every weekend since I have been here have been extremely busy, so finally this week I told myself I need to paint my walls and I did! I painted on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. I never knew how messy it was to paint but at least my walls like so much better now!

On Wednesday morning I got my first haircut in Romania. My friend Christina from church took me to her hair dresser and she did a great job! I am very pleased. I got my hair chopped short for the summer time. Now it’s nice and short and it doesn’t seem as hot as it did before with my hair on my neck. It’s great to have my hair off my neck!

Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 – 6:30pm Einer (another teacher) and I went to a group home (they call orphanages group homes now) to teach them English and spend time playing and getting to know them. This was our third time going there. We found out about this place through my roommate who just started going there. The home is just outside of Targu Mures (around a 15 bus ride from the centre). The kids range from 5 to 16 years old. This week the kids seem to be a little more comfortable with me. I finally got to meet with the director of the home this week. I feel much better that I spoke to her about going there and she seems pretty happy that we are coming too. I’m so thankful for this opportunity to work with these kids! They’re a blessing and it is my prayer that God will use me to reach out to them during my time here in Romania.

About Andrea

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go. I also love cats too and I have a cat of my own named Minnie!
