first biggest snowfall!

On Friday November 30th, most of the morning and the afternoon I stayed inside. I watched the snow come down as I was inside but I didn’t realize how much it had snowed until I went outside! Every Friday afternoon from 4 – 6pm I go to Life and Light group home with Einer and Tabita. We teach English and just hang out the kids. I love going there and I love forward to it every week! We usually catch the bus to Voinecenilor at 3:55pm but the bus didn’t come nor did we see any other bus. I think because of the weather they cancelled some the bus routes.

By 4:30pm we decided to get a taxi. We went to the taxi stand at the centre in front of MacDonald’s and I think for the first time ever since I have been here there wasn’t any taxis there so we decided to call for one and we had trouble getting one! We really wanted go and be with the kids. I hate it when I miss a week and besides we needed to practice the English Christmas carols for their Christmas party so I felt it was really important to go. We were finally able to get a taxi at 4:45pm and by the time we got there it was 5:15pm. It usually takes us 15 minutes to get there but because the traffic and the weather was so bad it took much longer than usual.

It was the first biggest snowfall we had this winter so the traffic was a bit crazy and that’s another reason why we had trouble getting a taxi because not many people like to drive in that weather. I didn’t see any snow plows outside which was interesting. I heard people sweep the snow here and another thing that was interesting to see was a lot of people were using umbrellas. I guess they didn’t want to get snow on themselves. I have to admit though it was beautiful! There were big snowflakes that came down and covered everything. It was quite the sight!

When we finally got to Life and Light group home the kids were all in the large living room watching TV like they usually do when we arrive. All of the children were happy to see us when we got there and I was very happy to see them too! It was our first practice for the songs they will sing at the Christmas party. We gathered the children together to practice the songs but it was crazy. Some kids wanted to sing and some didn’t. Some children cooperated with us but others didn’t. So, we finally decided to ask the children who really wanted to sing the English Christmas carols to stay with Tabita and I. Then I asked Einer to take the children who didn’t want to sing and play with them. That worked really well!

We sang Jingle Bells, Joy to the World and we wish you a Merry Christmas. We ended up having around eight kids in our group and I really enjoyed it! Mihai told the kids that Joy to the World might be a bit hard for the kids to sing it so they didn’t practiced it on Tuesday but I wanted to try it with them anyway. We first read it and then we sang it and wow I was quite impressed! The girls sang so beautiful that I was speechless!

I’m so glad we went to Life and Light in spite of the weather because I had such an amazing time with the children that day. When I practiced singing the carols with the older girls God impressed upon my heart a new love for them and a new desire to spend more time with them. I also saw one of the girls (Magda) in a different way than I had before. I saw her as a girl who is longing for love and wants to be reached out to. It’s so easy to spend more time with the younger kids because they are so cute but the older kid’s need just as much attention as the younger ones do. In fact even more because now they are seeking their identity of who they are. I also see Magda as a leader at the group home. She has a very strong influence over the kids and she has that leadership ability in her to be either a positive or a negative role model for the other children at the home. I would love to spend more time with her and mentor her. In January I would absolutely love to start working with her and some of the other older girls on a more regular basis. This is my prayer. Please join with me in prayer to reach out to the kids for Christ!
