Every Tuesday Hilya, Alina and Mihai volunteer at Life and Light group home and every Friday I go there with Einer and Tabita to work with the children there. At the end of October we decided to do a joint Christmas party for the kids. After all of the meetings, preparations, planning and re-planning we had the Christmas party for the children on Sunday December 16th.
I ended up co-coordinating everything for the party but it was a really good experience for me to do that. I spoke to the director and the workers at the home to make the arrangements with them and then we divided the different tasks along us volunteers.
The Christmas party was in the afternoon from 1:00 – 3:30pm. The children sang Christmas carols in English and they sang Christmas carols in Romanian (songs they prepared for us). They did a great job and sang so beautiful! We (the volunteers) presented a drama for the kids which told the Christmas story. I shared the gospel through the candy cane and then we played a game with the candy cane. The children prepared Christmas gifts for each other (a couple of weeks ago they picked names and we provided everything for them) and made a craft for the child they had the name for. Even though the gifts were really from us, it was great to see them wrap the gifts and later exchange the gifts to each other!
We ate snack food at the end. Last Saturday Alina, Tabita and I baked cookies for them (they loved the cookies!). Tabita and I also made Christmas cards for each child at the home. They liked that. We also gave cards and gifts to the directors and all of the workers too. So, it was a full packed afternoon but overall it went really well (in spite of the crazyness)!
I give God praise for giving me this amazing opportunity to reach out to the kids at Life and Light group home! It is such a blessing and the more I spend time with them the more I get to know them. Each child is such a blessing from God and they are very special.
