weekend in Rochester, NY

On Friday May 2, my parents and I went to Rochester, New York for the weekend to visit my Grandma and my other relatives on my Mom’s side of the family. This turned out to my our second visit during my time at home but the first one was an unexpected one as my Grandpa recently passed away and the second one was originally planned. My brother wanted to put in some over time hours at work so he decided to stay home and work.

My parents and I left on Friday around 7:00pm. I think we got to my Grandma’s house around 10:45pm. It was good to see my Grandma. She was watching TV when we arrived. We talked for a bit and then we decided since it was late to head to bed.

On Saturday (May 3), my Mom made us a great breakfast and then we spent the rest of the day doing some shopping. I was able to get some things I wanted to bring back to Romania and I also got my friend a gift for her wedding as well. For dinner we took my Grandma out for her birthday which is coming up soon. We went to the Old Country Buffet. There was a wonderful family that sat next to us and we were able to talk to them a bit. They had seven children! It’s not that common to see large families these days. They are a Christian family. I shared with them that I’m a missionary in Romania. They encouraged me a lot. One of their young boys wants to be a missionary so he asked me all these questions. It was cute! How neat to meet a family like that in a restaurant. We spent the evening relaxing at my Grandma’s house.

On Sunday (May 4), my parents and I went to Bethel Christian Fellowship church in the morning. It was a great service! I was so glad to be at church that morning because I missed two weeks in a row of church from our family vacation. I guess when you miss church it makes you grateful for when you can go!

My Mom made a great dinner (pork chops, mashed potatoes and vegetables)! My Uncle Tom and my Aunt Debbie came over for dinner and also my cousin Josh and his wife plus three of their kids. It was nice to enjoy a delicious meal before we went back home. Josh and his wife just had twin boys in December. Now they are five months old. I got to hold them. They are so cute!

Around 4:30pm we left to go home. It was a great weekend and it was so nice to see my Grandma again and my other relatives before I went back to Romania. It seems like my Grandma is going through a difficult time right now with my Grandpa passing away so I think she appreciated us visiting her.

About Andrea

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go. I also love cats too and I have a cat of my own named Minnie!
