August Romania Update!

August 31, ‘09

Dear Friends and Family,

I hope you had a great summer as the summer months are coming to an end! I hope you were able to have lots of time with your family and friends as well as get a vacation too.

Church camp in beautiful mountains!

This was my third summer I had the wonderful opportunity to go to camp with my home church here in Romania. This year I was not sure at first if I was going to be able to go to camp because I had already booked my plane ticket for Canada for July 30 and the camp started on July 26 but we serve an awesome God and He made a way for me to go to camp! I am very thankful I was able to go to camp with my church from Sunday July 26 to Wednesday July 29 at Lunca Bradului and it was such an encouragement to me of how my church worked it out for me to attend and they even made sure I had a ride to the airport as well!

The four days I spent at camp were incredible days spent with my church family, enjoying the beauty of the mountains and seeking God. It was so good to get out of the busyness of life and get away for a few days. There were many things I had been praying for before I went to camp and during my time at camp God did many wonderful things beyond what I could even put into words. At camp during the services God touched me in a new way, I experienced many breakthroughs in my life that I had been seeking God for a while and He spoke to me a lot about my future here in Romania. I left camp with a new heart and passion for the vision and calling the Lord has put on my heart. I feel very encouraged and excited about what God has for me ahead!

My time spent in Canada

I flew back to Canada on July 30th and then I returned to Romania on August 19th. My time spent in Canada was short and extremely busy but I am thankful for the many blessings I had while I was home. My first week I was home I went on a camping trip and also to the Kingdom Bound festival with my family. My family and I have been going to the festival since I was a child and it has become one of my favourite family traditions we do every summer so I always enjoy it when I can go. We were able to spend lots of good family quality time together as well as I was able to see some of my favourite Christian bands in concert. My family also had a big family reunion BBQ at our house on August 8, which was a real blessing! We had a full house from both sides of the family. It was wonderful to see everyone both from Waterloo and New York. We all had a great time!

It was wonderful to be able to connect with some of my friends and supporters while I was home. I had two Sundays where I was able to attend my home church while I was home. The first Sunday (August 9th) my church gave me a very warm welcome home and I also shared that Sunday as well. The second Sunday (August 16th) my church prayed for my parents and I for our return to Romania. While I was home God gave me a couple of wonderful surprises! My home church came together and gave many, many donations for me to take back with me to Romania! In fact this was the first time in all of my trips to Romania that my church has done this for me. When my Pastor uncovered the donated items after I shared I was so shocked that tears came to my eyes. My parents and I ended up taking 5 fully packed donated bags for the ministry needs here! This brought great encouragement to my heart in how my church surrounded me with love and reached out to me in what God has called me to do. Another thing my church blessed me with was when they helped give towards the extra check in piece of luggage. I also got some donated items for my kitty here as well!

My Parents visit in Romania!

I flew back to Romania together with my parents on Wednesday August 19 (we arrived on August 20) and they stayed until Friday August 28. Their time in Romania was a real blessing beyond what I could put into words because for a while it has been a desire of my heart for them to visit me in Romania and to see for themselves what I do here. It was wonderful for them to meet the team I work with here, some my friends and to meet the people at my home church. It was great to show them around the town and to show them a little of what I do here. I was able to take them to a gypsy community where we take teams to there we played with the kids and gave them candy. One of the highlights of their time in Romania was when we went to the group home I have been volunteering at. The director, workers and the children warmly welcome my parents when we were there. We gave the children gift bags we put together filled with school supplies, hygiene stuff, candy and other fun stuff which was a surprise for them! The director was very grateful for what we did for the children. We also went on a three day road trip to the east part of Romania to see the monasteries while my parents were here. They definitely had a busy week but it was a great week!

Praise Reports!

  • I praise God for everything He did during my time at camp with my church!
  • I praise God for all of the blessing He did in my life while I was in Canada!
  • I praise God for bringing my parents to Romania!

Prayer Requests:

·         God has renewed my motivation and passion for the Romanian language! I would appreciate your continual prayers for this that I will keep on going forward in my language process.

·         I have a deep desire and burden on my heart to step into full-time ministry to the orphan and gypsy children here in Romania. I need God’s guidance and direction as well as for the right doors to open up for me to step into. Please pray for me to make the right decisions and for me to know what God’s clear timing is for me to take the next step in my journey with Him.

·         For me to continue to daily grow in my relationship with the Lord.
