So You Think You Can Dance

Last week I just finished watching the American TV show "So You Think You Can Dance – SYTYCD" season 6 and it was an amazing show! It was the first time I watched this show and after watching a couple of episodes I fell in love with it and kept on watching it. SYTYCD is an American dance competition and reality TV show that airs on Fox in the United States. It is very similar to "American Idol" but it is a dance competition instead of singing.

The dancers come from all different walks of life. The show holds auditions in major cities across the U.S., looking for the top dancers in each city. All contestants have to work their way through a difficult audition process. By the end of this process, 20 dancers of various styles are chosen to complete on national television over the course of the show, dancers are assigned to different dance styles as they work with choreographies. At the end of the show one dancer wins the competition. The winner gets the title "America’s favorite dancer" and wins $25,000.

The judges were: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Adam Shankman. The host was: Cat Deeley.

Season 6 winner: Russell Fergu
Runner up: Jakob Karr
3rd Place: Kathryn McCormick

Some of my favorite performances are (You can check them out on You Tube! Just click on the links):

– Hip hop group performance
The dancers are: Russell, Kevin and Jonathan "Legacy"
Music: "Beggin" by District 78 Mix

– Contemporary performance
The dancers are: Kathryn and Legacy
Music: 2 Steps away by Patti LaBelle

This particular dance really spoke to me because Legancy is the character of fear and Kathryn is trying to get away from her fear during the dance performance
and finally at the end she conquers her fear by walking on top of him. It was powerful!

– African Jazz performance
The dancers are: Noelle and Russell
Music: Frog Dance by Mickey Hart and Planet Drum

– Viennesse Waltz performance
The dancers are: Molle and Jakob
Music: Ordinary day by Vanessa Carlton

– Contemporary performance
The dancers are: Ashleigh and Ryan
Music: I’m there too by Michelle Featherston

If you get a chance to see the you tub links I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! For me this show really showed me how powerful dancing can be as I saw the different dance styles, the different characters the dancers performed and the story how the dance brought to life. I also saw how the partnership is so important in the dance. I especially saw how the guy has to be there for the girl throughout the entire performance supporting her with the different lifts and spins and the girl has to totallly trust in the guy to be that support for her. Wow, how powerful a dance can bring!
