August Romania Update!

Monday September 6, 2010

Dear Family and Friends,

I hope you are doing well and had a wonderful summer! It is hard to believe that summer is already over and we are at the beginning of the fall season. It has been a very hot summer here so I don’t mind a little cool weather! Bine ai venit toamnă! (Welcome fall!)

A Special Evening out with the orphan children

After the orphan camp I really missed spending time with Andreea from the orphanage. I mentioned this to my friend Lidia who translated for our summer teams and she also told me she missed Cristi (one of the younger orphan boys). We decided to have a special evening out with the kids on Thursday August 12th. Laura who also translated for the teams decided to join us and she brought Alexandra (another orphan girl) with her. It was so sweet how happy and excited Andreea was when she saw me! She ran up to me and gave me a big hug! We had a wonderful evening together. First we took the kids to MacDonald’s for dinner and then went to Băile Felix (it is a thermal spa resort near Oradea) to take them to see the flowers, fish and turtles. It was the first time the kids went there so it was special for them. Andreea asked me if I would be interested in being her mentor. I told her I would love to! I am amazed how God brought this close bond between us that started from camp. I think it is very special!

Our August Summer Team

Our third and last team for the summer arrived on Saturday August 14th and they stayed until Saturday August 21st. They were a wonderful team of 15 people from Iowa! They came excited and ready to serve! Praise God for the amazing weather we had and no one got sick the whole week!!  We had such a great week and it went super fast! I was very impressed with the awesome job the team did with their VBS in the Sabolciu gypsy village with the children throughout the week in the mornings. They had the stage decorated and had a whole under the sea theme. The children were very happy to have another team spend time with them and I could tell they enjoyed every moment with them!

In the afternoons the team worked with the orphan children from CP2 (Children’s Placement Centre 2). We hung out with the kids in the park, had a pizza party and chapel with them. The kids enjoyed spending time with them. For me personally it was great to spend another week with them. Another blessing we were able to have was to spend a bit of time with the foster families Pathway to Joy sponsors.  This team was a joy to work with like all the teams are that come here but what impressed me the most was they were the youngest team, performed an awesome complex drama which presented the gospel and they blessed all of the kids with backpacks, filled with school supplies and gifts! What blessing from God to have the privilege this summer to work with such incredible teams!

A week break in Târgu Mures

I finally got a chance to visit everyone in Târgu Mures where I used to live for almost 3 years! I have wanted to go back for a while but I had to postpone it to the end of the summer. I visited my former “home” from Thursday August 26th to Wednesday September 1st and it felt like a reunion the whole week as I was able to reconnect with everyone there! It was so good to see all of my friends again, my former co-workers, the orphan children I used to work with and my former home church in Reghin!  I was very encouraged that I was able to communicate mostly in Romanian while I was there. I think some people were a bit surprised to see the progress I have made since I was last there! It was such a blessing to stay with my best friend Cristina and also spend the weekend in Reghin with friends there. I enjoyed every moment during my visit and I also felt very encouraged from everyone as they encouraged me of the ministry I am doing in Oradea!

Praise Reports!

  • I praise God for the new mentoring relationship with Andreea. Please pray for wisdom and more of God’s compassionate heart to do this because this is very new to me.
  • I praise God for the August team blessing all of the children with new school backpacks!
  • I praise God for the blessing He gave me to be able to visit Târgu Mures and see everyone there!

 Prayer Requests:

  • For closer relationships with the kids in Sabolciu and for my English classes that will start again.
  • For my continual Romanian learning especially my speaking and also in my understanding.
  • For deeper friendships. I still very much desire to have a prayer partner.
  • For my relationship with God that I will continue to have a heart that is hungry for Him. This weekend I will go to a prayer conference in the mountains. Please pray that it will be a time where I will be spiritually energized because lately I have been feeling spiritually dry.

Thank-you for all of your prayers and encouraging e-mails. I appreciate it so much!!

Many blessings,

Andrea
