This afternoon I went to Sabolciu with Aubrey, Rhonda and Ibi. When Aubrey was in the States this past summer she got toothbrushes and toothpaste donated for all the children in Sabolciu but she didn’t have a chance yet to give them out so today she brought them! Aubrey told us in the car that before she hands out the toothbrushes and toothpaste she wants to do a seminar and teach them how to properly brush their teeth first. We all thought that was a great idea.

We arrived at the village just after all the kids got out of school around 12:30pm. Rhonda and I decided to get out of the car while Aubrey parks the car. Two kids (Larisa and Daniel) saw us when we walked into the village. We greeted them and then Rhonda asked them if she could see their house. The children were more than happy to show us their house! I have seen their house before but I went inside anyway. We didn’t actually end up going inside their house but we ended up looking at all their animals outside. Oh, they have the cutest little kitten! The kitten reminded me of my cat Minnie when she was a young kitten. I picked up the kitten and I got a picture with it! We saw their chicken, geese and pigs. I had no idea they had so many animals and their pigs were huge! I told Rhonda that their older brother Boby goes to high school in Oradea. Larisa and Daniel seemed proud of their brother. I was very glad to hear that and I hope they too will want to go to high school when they are at the age to go.

Aubrey, Rhonda and Ibi giving the toothbrush seminar

I was really happy that Ibi came with us to Sabolciu when we did the toothbrush seminar and handed them out because she was amazing today! I am just so impressed how well Ibi is with the kids. I would love it if she could come with us every day and they listen to her too! Aubrey and Rhonda did the seminar and Ibi translated for them. They asked the children why it is important to brush your teeth and Aubrey got one of the kids to brush Aubrey’s teeth for her. I was so glad that so many children came to the church for this seminar; they even responded to the questions and wanted to take part. Then Aubrey handed out the toothbrushes and toothpaste to everyone. After everyone received their own set of toothbrushes and toothpaste I was shocked that all of the children went outside to where the tap is to brush their teeth!!

I was so impressed with the children how much they enjoyed brushing their teeth. I think some of them brushed for like 5 or even 10 minutes! Honestly I don’t even know when the last time they brushed their teeth because I’m sure the majority of them don’t even have their own toothbrush nor have toothpaste. It was an awesome moment to see them take care of themselves and now if they can only do this every day it would be even more awesome!! More and more I realize how important it is to have that educational centre built and running soon because I know that would make a world of a difference in their lives.

After our time in Sabolciu I met my Romanian teacher Mihaela at 3:30pm for my Romanian lesson. Today I wrote a test from the first 5 chapters of the book I just completed. I actually did this Romanian book when I was in Târgu Mures so it was just a review but I asked Mihaela to give me a test anyway to see how much I learned and remembered. I think I did okay on the test but I know I could have done better because I forgot some things and my spelling wasn’t very good either.

Last week I asked Mihaela if she knows a dentist because I really need to get my teeth taken care of. The last time I was at the dentist was in Canada for a cleaning in December 2008 and at that time I also found out I have cavities too. I didn’t get my cavities taken care of in Canada because the estimated price they gave me was $650 but it could be up to $700. Honestly I just can’t afford it so finally I’m going to get it taken care of in Romania because I know it will be a lot cheaper here. Mihaela told me she knows of two dentists – her dentist and another one that deals with foreign patients. I told her that it would be nice to go to the one that speaks English so today we booked my appointment for next Monday (October 18th).

When I got home I ate dinner and watched a couple of my favorite TV shows (Extreme Makeover Home Edition and CSI Miami). It was a great day!
