Today I had planned on going to the Sabolciu gypsy village with Norbi and Mircea but plans changed when I got a phone call from Ina at 11:00am. Ina is one of our social workers who works with Pathway to Joy Ministries. Ina wanted to ask me if I wanted to join her and Gina for the foster family visits they will do today so I can hand out the packets from Canada of the mittens, scarves and hats. I told her that I will talk to Norbi to see if it is okay and then I’d let her know.
After I spoke to Ina I called Norbi right away and it was fine with him so today I was able to join Ina and Gina and give out the packets to four foster kids! I also got an opportunity to speak in Romanian for three hours today because Ina and Gina don’t really know English that well so it was good for me to force myself to speak only in Romanian!
I had a wonderful time visiting the four different foster families that we visited today. Our first visit was one of the younger girls who has been in this family for short time but is now
doing very well. Her name is Malvina and she is 7 years old and she has an older sister who was also adopted by this family. Our second visit was one of the younger boys who has been in this family for a while and he is doing very well. His name is Csaba and he is 8 years old.
Our third visit was one of the pre-teen boys who has been with his family for ten years. His name is Stefan and he is 12 years old. This boy has autism so it can be difficult at times but his foster parents love him very much. Our fourth and last visit of the day was with one of the teen boys who has also been with his family for ten years. His name is Petru and he is 16 years old. He has grown and developed into a great teenager!
All of the children really liked their new mittens or gloves, hats and scarves. Their foster Moms were also surprised by the gift and seemed very appreciate too. One of my friends even gave two of the kids I visited today a Christmas card with a picture of her family. They really liked it and it was nice of her to do that for them to see who the gift came from. I’m so glad my Mom was able to collect enough for the foster children because originally we were just going to do the children in Sabolciu so this is a real blessing to be able to meet all the families and bless them!
At first Adina and I were thinking of handing out the packets at their Christmas party but then we thought it might not be a good idea because the children will be getting Christmas gifts from the foundation at that time. I’m glad Adina told me that I could go with Ina and Gina when they do their monthly visits to the families because I think it is more personal this way. I don’t really know the foster families except for a few children that I have met before so doing personal visits is a blessing to get to know them and it also helps to when I contact their sponsors as well.
In the evening I stayed home where I worked on my blog and watched my favourite TV show (Amazing Race). I can’t believe there are only two more episodes left in the season already! Around 10:00pm I got a prank phone call from a girl that totally freaked me out and I don’t know who it was because the number was unknown. The girl said she was Aubrey and she told me that she came back to Romania. I knew it wasn’t Aubrey because I knew that wasn’t her voice and I also knew that she didn’t come back to Romania. I don’t know who would want to do a trick on me like that. I thought it was mean for someone to do that. I think it was one of the teen orphan girls but I am not totally sure who it was so I went to bed with that weird feeling.
