This morning I started off my day with God which was a blessing but unfortunately Minnie woke me up the second morning in a row at 5:00am. I was not happy with her and I have no idea why she has been waking up so early and wanting to play. Fortunately Minnie hasn’t been waking Meg up but she has been waking me up before my alarm goes off which is not fun at all. I think it is the worst to get woken up, go back to sleep and wake up an hour later. It was great to have my quiet time with God but I was so tired that it was hard to focus.
At 9:00am we had a staff meeting at the foundation’s office. Cornel my director led the meeting. It was kind of a meeting to get everyone caught up and connected again after not meeting for over a month. After the staff meeting I met with Cornel about the follow up that I’m doing with the Pathway to Joy’s sponsors. We went over what I have done and what needs to be done. I was so thankful that he wasn’t upset with me because I was kind of concerned what he might think since I haven’t been having much luck with this task. Thankfully he seemed glad of what I have done and the help I’m giving him in this area.
Oh, I was so disappointed again that we couldn’t go to the Sabolciu gypsy village today because Mireca and Norbi still had to finish the doctor’s appointments with the people from the village. I explained to them that Friday is Meg’s last day in Romania and I asked them if we could please go on to Sabolciu tomorrow and Friday. They told me we will so I was glad to hear that.
After the meetings I went home to continue to work on my e-mails. Oh, after I met with Cornel I thanked him for responding to my e-mails so quickly. He told me if he doesn’t then his e-mail just gets piled up, then eventually he gets overwhelmed and he doesn’t want to look at his inbox. I told him it is so true and that’s how I feel too so I made a goal for myself today to not let me inbox get to more than ten e-mails.
While I worked on my e-mails this afternoon I listened to the K-Love Christian radio station on the internet. I started listening to this radio station in December and I just love it! There is such a great variety of Christian music and the DJs are so encouraging. Two of my favourite DJs are Lisa and Eric and they have their show in the morning (Eastern time zone: 6:00 – 11:00am) but in Romania it is in the afternoon here because of the time difference.
During the month of January they have been talking about the book called “Made to Crave” which is written by Lysa Terkeurst. It is a book about how to crave for God instead of other things that dilute our spiritual life. Another thing they have been talking about everyday throughout this month is the one word challenge for this year which is an idea by a Pastor from the States (I forget where they said he’s from).
Here are some things about the one word challenge from their “My One Word” website. Every New Year we hope this will finally be the year that things will change. We make promises about the new person we’re going to become, pledging to get a grip on our finances, get in shape, become a parent, spouse, even a nicer human being! But there’s one problem; our resolutions seldom work. The busy pace of life gets the better of us, and suddenly, the year is over with little to no personal growth having occurred in our lives.
“My One Word” is an experiment designed to move you beyond the past and look ahead. The challenge is simple: lose the long list of changes you want to make this year and instead pick ONE WORD. This process provides clarity by taking all of your big plans for life change and narrowing them down into a single thing. One word focuses on your character and creates a vision for your future. So, we invite you to join us and pick one word in 2011. Here are three simple steps: 1) determine the kind of person you want to become, 2) identify the characteristics of that person and 3) simple pick a word.
Even though I have been listening to Lisa and Eric’s morning show all month and I have been hearing about this one word challenge every day I never really gave it any thought. However today, I thought to myself why not give it a try because I know that New Year’s resolutions don’t work anyway and I so much desire to grow deeper in God this year. I thought of different words that came into my mind that I could choose like: deeper, closer, crave, more, etc.
As I was thinking about it the word “focus” just came into my mind. I think it was God because as soon as it came into my mind I thought to myself “yeah I want to have more focus this year and not get so easily distracted by things. I want to be more focused on God, on my time, on my relationships with people, on the vision and calling God has on my life, etc”. Here’s a great scripture verse to help me with my challenge “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2a).What a great word and it definitely will help me give me a specific vision for this year (2011)!
I just looked up the definition of the word “focus”. Here are some of the definitions that I have found on the internet: 1) a central point, as of attraction, attention or activity, 2) physics – a point at which rays of light, heat or other radiation, meet after being refracted or reflected, 3) to concentrate: to focus one’s thoughts, etc. There are a lot more definitions but those three I really wanted to write.
I would like to challenge everyone who is reading this blog entry to take up the one word challenge for this year. We all know that writing a list of resolutions doesn’t work anyway so why not try it? I believe God has God put the word “FOCUS” on my mind today and I have decided to make it my vision word for this year. What word will you choose?

I had my Romanian lesson with Mihaela from 4:30 – 6:00pm. It was a good lesson. Then in the evening I had a good chat with my Mom on Skype before I went to bed. It was another great day!
