Today we had another great day with the children but unfortunately our time was short as we only spent just over an hour there which was a bit disappointing. Before we invited the children into the church Mircea and Norbi brought a food package to the Varga family (they have one boy and three girls) because their Grandma died yesterday. We wanted to bless them with some food to help them through this difficult time (the other families understood and comforted them). It is really sad that their Grandma died at such a young age (Mircea told me she was in her mid sixties so that’s pretty young).

We decided to just do a “fun day” and colour with the children at the church since it was Meg’s last day with the children. It was nice to just interact with the kids in a casual way as we coloured, talked to them and played with them outside. I’m sure the children will miss Meg and will be asking about her!

In the evening I went to the orphan chapel with Meg and the other volunteers. It was great to have some time with the kids from CP2 (Children’s Placement 2). Meg led us in a game called “heads up”. The kids enjoyed it. Dani spoke and he did a great job! I just loved how he told a story from the Bible by getting into the character because the children/ teens seemed much more engaged as he spoke. It was also great how we took time to pray for Meg being her last time with them before she left and to hear the kid’s prayers touched my heart.

I invited Andreea (the orphan girl I mentor) to spend the weekend with me at my apartment because I still have the mattress that Meg used. Tabita told me that she would help me sign her out for the weekend because I need to do some paper work, for me to sign her out overnight. Tabita asked me to go with Andreea back to the orphanage in the first car load to help Andreea pack her things and then she will help me sign her out when she comes back in the second car load.

I did what Tabita advised me to do however when I arrived at the orphanage I got in such a panic and I felt so stressed out because Andreea went ahead and told her supervisors and her roommates that she is going to my place for the weekend. First of all when I walked in with Andreea, her supervisors looked at me quite strange because it was way past visiting hours (it was around 9:30pm) and when Andreea told them that she is going to my place they were like well we will see about that. I didn’t know what to tell her supervisor other then Tabita is coming and she will talk to her about it.

I went to Andreea’s room with her to be with her and help her pack her things. I couldn’t believe though how much her roommates went on and on about how it wasn’t possible for Andreea to go with me to my apartment for the weekend because I didn’t do the paper work. I honestly didn’t think it would be a problem because Tabita helped Aubrey sign Ibi out when she was here. While I waited for Tabita to get back I got into a panic so I called her and told her what was going on. Tabita just basically told me to calm down, not stress and she will be there soon.

I ended up calling Tabita a second time because I thought the wait time was quite long but when I called her the second time she had already arrived at the orphanage and was meeting with the supervisors. It turned out I worried and stressed out for nothing and everything was fine. Tabita had no problem signing out Andreea for the weekend and I shouldn’t have panicked about the whole thing.

The rest of the evening Andreea and I spent time with Meg before she left for the airport. I asked Andreea if she wanted to make French fries for us because I wanted Meg to try Andreea’s delicious French fries that she likes to make and also for Meg to get something to eat before she left. Andreea was all for it! I helped Andreea peel and cut the potatoes and then she fried them up. They were really good! After we ate we played the card game UNO for a bit. It was great to hang out with Meg for a bit with Andreea!

Meg’s shuttle service was arranged for 12:40am tonight because her flight from Budapest was at 6:30am on Saturday morning. I went out with her to wait for the van which was supposed to arrive just in front of my apartment. When it was not there at 12:50am I got a bit worried so I called the driver and sure enough just as I called him he was only 5 minutes away from my apartment. It was a quick good-bye when the van pulled out. The driver put Meg’s luggage in the van, we gave each other a hug and then said good-bye.

When I went back into my apartment Andreea was still up so I told her that it is very late and we need to go to bed now so I got changed, turned off the light and we said good-night to each other. Now I just hope I can still get up in the morning for my quiet time!

A short note about Meg’s stay with me:

It is really hard to believe how fast the past three weeks went by!  I really have enjoyed our time together. At first I was a bit nervous how it would turn out with the lack of space, with me getting up at 6:00am for my quiet time with God and how Minnie would be with her here but everything was fine. There was limited space but we dealt with it, praise God that I was still was able to get up for my quiet time and I wasn’t disturbed and Minnie also got used to Meg being around.

Meg had quite a busy schedule when she was here with being at the children’s hospital

Meg and I

with the abandoned babies in the mornings and in the afternoons with the orphan and gypsy children. I know she had a really great time with the children here and enjoyed being able to reconnect with them again. I’m sure she will miss the kids when she returns to the States and we will all miss her too!

While Meg was here I was able to spend a bit more time then I usually do with the orphan kids from CP2 which was a blessing for me. I always love seeing young people have a heart for missions so seeing Meg have a desire to return to Romania to reach out to the kids here was a blessing for me to be a part of! It was also a blessing to host her too and I look forward to meeting many more young people come to the mission field!

About Andrea

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go. I also love cats too and I have a cat of my own named Minnie!
