March Romania Update!

Friday March 25, 2011

Dear Family and Friends,

I hope you’re doing well. It is hard to believe that it was the first day of spring a couple of days ago when it feels so cool outside! Yesterday marked my first year in Oradea, Romania! Though I am not actually in Romania right now but I will share more on that later.

Ministry to the Gypsy Children

I am so excited when I think of all the amazing things God is doing in the lives of these

Laura and her three of her siblings

precious children! I am starting to see more and more fruit in ministry that we are doing at the village especially as I see them now memorizing scripture and grow in their faith. God gave me a humbling experience during one of the times I was at Sabolciu. Laura asked me to go with her to the store one day because she needed to get some basic grocery items. I was glad to keep her company as we walk to the store however she really surprised me when she gave me biscuits after we left the store. I was shocked because I couldn’t believe they were for me! I mean here is a sixteen year old girl who is currently taking care of her five siblings while her parents are away in Ireland and she gives me biscuits when she is barely surviving on her own!

Kim’s Visit to Romania!

It was a blessing beyond what I could possibility put into words to have Kim Wasserman come to Romania from February 24th to March 3rd! Kim is the development coordinator for

Kim and I

Pathway to Joy Ministries’ American office. During her time in Romania I really believe that God gave her a fresh vision for sharing about the children as she spent time with the abandoned babies, orphan and gypsy children. Two of my favourite things we did when she was in Romania was when we treated Boby and Beni who are two of our first high school students from the village to lunch at McDonalds. The other thing was when we did a surprise delivery of food packages to the families in Sabolciu. It was wonderful to have Kim here for a week. She was a great encouragement to me as well!

My Girls Bible Study Group

Recently I just completed my first Bible study with my girl’s small group from Viată Nouă (New Life) church. On Tuesday March 8th we did our last session of our nine week study

My Girls Small Group

we did on the life of Esther by Beth Moore and WOW was it another great study! Doing this Bible study was such a blessing beyond what I can put into words. God taught me so much about stepping out of my fears, rising up and being His warrior and just being the woman that He has created and called me to be. I am so grateful for the wonderful Romanian ladies that I had the privilege of doing this Bible study with and also grow together in our walk with God.

Sudden Changes in my Journey

If you have known me for any length of time you know that I’m a planner and sometimes I find it difficult when I have sudden changes in “my schedule”. I am learning through my life that these sudden changes are not surprises at all to God. In fact He knew about them way before I did! Throughout my missionary journey God has taught me that the lesson of faith and trusting in Him doesn’t just get learned once but it is a continuous process. This past month I have had two changes that have gave me a shock that I was not anticipating in at all. The first shock that I received was on February 18th when I went to the immigration office and found out that I have to leave Romania for 3 months because of my Romanian visa situation. The second shock was on February 23rd when I spoke to my

Maria and I

Pastor from my home church in Canada on Skype and he told me that my church cannot directly channel my financial support anymore.

I had to make a decision to return to Canada to resolve these issues. I flew back to Canada on March 14th and I will stay until June 16th. When I return to Romania in June I will be applying for a new Romanian humanitarian visa. After much prayer I decided the best decision for me to take in my journey is become a missionary under my church’s domination (PAOC – Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada) and to continue to partner with the organization that I am currently serving with.

Praise Reports!

  • I praise God for the fruitful ministry that He is doing in the lives of the children at Sabolciu!
  • I praise God for Kim’s trip to Romania and for the exciting things that happened that week!
  • I praise God for the opportunity to study the book of Esther with nine other women!
  • I praise God for giving me a cheap airfare change on my ticket, for a house & cat sitter!

Prayers Requests:

  • For the ongoing ministry that is happening right now with the orphan and gypsy children.
  • For my application process with the PAOC missions department. I will have a Skype interview appointment with Darcy (he oversees the process) on March 29th at 4:30pm.
  • For my trip to Florida. I have been invited to help with the fundraising for the educational centre for the gypsy village. I will be in Florida from May 10th – 21st before my family’s camping trip.
  • For my Romanian humanitarian visa that I will be able to get all the papers I need and I will have no problems when I apply for a new one when I return to Romania in June.

Many blessings,

Andrea

About Andrea

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go. I also love cats too and I have a cat of my own named Minnie!
