Sunday April 24, 2011 – Easter Sunday

Today was a very busy day but it was also a very good day! This morning my family and I ended up going to two churches. The first church we went to was my Grandma’s Catholic church. My Mom just wanted to go for my Grandma to feel that we still want to be with her even though we are not Catholic. I honestly find going to Catholic masses quite boring so I wasn’t too enthusiast about going but I went anyway. The church was quite full. A lot of people probably went because today is Easter Sunday.

I think there were a lot of people that went just because it was Easter Sunday because even as I looked around at the people there were quite a lot of faces that looked bored. I found it quite funny when one of the priests got us to sing the children’s song Hallelujah where he split the men and the women up and we stood up and down for different parts of the song! I couldn’t believe that we did that in a Catholic church. It was just hilarious! I laughed so much and I think it brought a lot of smiles to a lot of people’s faces too!

Yesterday Jim and Kenlynne told us about this church just outside of Rochester called “The Father’s House”. They encouraged us to check it out because they thought we might enjoy it and they have four services on Sunday morning (8:00am, 9:30am, 11:30am and 1:30pm). We decided to go to the 11:30am service and wow did we ever enjoy it! It was such a blessing to go to a lively church and celebrate that resurrection of Jesus Christ!

It was such a treat to go to The Father’s House church! They even opened up the service with two guys playing the drums with water and a red light showing through. I was very impressed how organized and modern the church was. The church was quite big and very friendly. I loved the full band they had with the bass and violin. They also had a full choir and special music as well. The worship was amazing and the sermon was very good too.

The sermon was about how we try to build our own ladders and strive to do things

ourselves instead of surrendering everything to Christ. Before the service started we were given a nail to hold onto. The Pastor gave an altar call to come up to the front and laid down your nail at the bottom of the cross. I decided that I really needed to lay down everything again at Jesus’ feet so I went up to the front and placed my nail at the cross. After church we made a quick stop at Tim Hortons and then we went to my Grandma’s

house for the rest of the afternoon. The house was packed full with people! There was my Grandma, my Aunt Debbie and Uncle Tom was there, my cousin Melissa and her two children (Poitier and Amilion) and my cousin Josh, his wife Gardenia and their six children (I forget their names) and our friend Michael and his daughter. I can’t believe there were twenty people at my Grandma’s small house!

We had a great afternoon spending time with the family and friends. It was so nice to see

Happy Birthday Mom!!

everyone again and catch up with everyone. I can’t believe how fast the kids are growing up and how cute some of them are! After we ate dinner, we had a special birthday celebration for my Mom! Yes, Happy Birthday Mom!! We sang Happy Birthday to her and then enjoyed the birthday and Easter cakes (we had two cakes -a chocolate and another ice cream cake). How neat is that to celebrate my Mom’s birthday on Easter Sunday!

Around 5:00pm we said our good-byes and then went home. Before we went home however we stopped at Al and Diane’s house for a visit. It was so nice to see them again and my Mom was especially glad to see them on her birthday. My Mom has known them since she was a teenager and for me pretty much since I was born.

It was so great to see Al and Diane again! We had another little birthday celebration for my Mom. I was also able to give them an update on what’s happening in Romania and show them pictures too. I felt so encouraged too that they would like to support me on a monthly basis! Now I have two American monthly supporters! God is so good!

After our visit with Al and Diane we went home and finally got home almost at 1:00am. We got home pretty late because we were at Al and Diane’s I think almost 3 hours and then we had another 3 ½ drive home. It was late but it was okay because I could sleep in on Monday. It was a really great weekend and I’m so thankful for all of God’s blessings!

I would like to wish all of my family and friends a very happy and blessed Easter celebration. May you know the power of His resurrection! Hristos a inviat!! Christ is Risen!!
