Today I had a great day! This morning I got a phone call on my cell phone at 6:15am. Thankfully I was wake because I had a bad case of jet lag and I didn’t sleep well last night. At first I wasn’t sure who it was that called me and he only spoke in Romanian. I finally realized it was the driver for the delivery company from the Budapest airport for the luggage. I am so glad I was able to communicate with him in Romanian because he didn’t know any English!

He told me he would be at my apartment in 30 minutes and he actually did arrive at 6:45am. I was thrilled beyond what I could put into words that my luggage arrived!!! How awesome is that to have to have your delayed luggage delivered right to your door the next morning! I just praise God for taking care of my luggage and bringing it safety to my apartment.

In the morning I unpacked, cleaned a bit and did a few errands to get resettled into my apartment again. Karen who is my director invited me to the staff and intern BBQ this morning which was a nice surprise to receive that invitation! Before I went to the BBQ I went to CP2 (Children’s Placement Centre 2 – this is the orphanage where we work at) for the afternoon to spend time with the kids there and I also met up with the summer interns too. It was so great to see the kids again at CP2 but I really missed seeing Andreea who is the girl I mentor (she wasn’t there because she left for camp yesterday).

It was also really great to finally see the summer interns! They arrived a week before I arrived so it was the first time we saw each other today. We have five interns this summer but currently four because one of them is here for a month and the rest of them are here for two months.

The interns we have this summer are: Kelsey (she was here last summer as an intern and is here again this summer as a senior intern), Kim (she was also here last summer on one of the teams), Kaitlyn (this is her first time in Romania), Daniel (he is actually Romanian, he is an orphan, he got adopted into an American family and he wanted to come back to Romania after 9 years of being out of Romania and now he is a intern for the summer) and Esther (I think this will be her first time in Romania, she will be here for a month and she arrives on July 2).

The BBQ was really great and it was so good to see everyone again!! It was held at the “House of Joy” which will be the future home of 15 orphan children and it is owned by Pathway to Joy Ministries but currently it is being used as an intern house this summer. The food was great and it was a great time of fellowshipping with everyone too! What a blessing to connect with so many people after I arrived back in Romania yesterday.

There were around 26 people there including me at the BBQ. My director’s family was there, Steve and Tiffiny and their children (they are our new missionary family on staff), all the interns, plus one of the intern’s family, Sue (she used to work with Pathway to Joy and is now visiting Romania), two of Sue’s friends and also Jim and Irene (they are from Florida and they do the printing for the ministry).

It was a great first full day back in Romania! I think Minnie my cat really missed me because ever since I have been back she has been around me a lot and purring a lot. I think it is so sweet because she hardly ever purrs so it is so neat to hear her purr more! Last night she slept on my bed with me which was great to have her sleep with me on my bed the first night back. I so enjoyed because I missed having her on my bed at night with me when I was in Canada.

I would like to ask for your continual prayers as I get back into the swing of things here in Romania. My Romanian is a bit rusty but thankfully it is coming back. Today when I hung out with the orphan kids at the orphanage with the interns I noticed it was slowly coming back which is encouraging. I am excited to see the kids at Sabolciu soon! I really missed them so much!

About Andrea

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go. I also love cats too and I have a cat of my own named Minnie!
