This morning I went to church. The service was great but unfortunately I didn’t understand much of the sermon however I love worshipping in Romanian. It was great to be able to talk to some people that I met from the church retreat a couple of weeks ago. Now it is starting to feel a bit more like home which is such a great feeling. Thank-you Lord! I bought a couple of tickets after the service for the Decean concert that will be in a couple of weeks. I am really looking forward to that concert and worshipping God with other Romanians!
In the afternoon I went to the Sabolciu gypsy village from 4:00 – 6:30pm. We had a great
time and we had a full packed van too! I went with Dan, Tabita, Salomea, Steve and three older orphan kids – Ionut, Iby and Eva. When I first arrived I was so happy to see a couple of kittens at one of the houses! They were so cute and small! At the beginning of our time there we tried to have the worship time with the children at the church but Dan changed his mind because the children were too nosily. Oh, well it was worth a try.
The rest of the time we took the children outside while Dan did the church service with the adults. We decided to take the kids to the river to enjoy playing in the water there. I ended up going in the river too with the kids. I didn’t swim but I just walked in it. The kids had fun at the river but I felt a bit frustrated by couple of the kid’s bad behaviour. Oh, kids will be kids! I was also surprised by the herd of cattle that walked through the river when we were there too!
It was really sweet how little Lensi ended up falling asleep on my back as I carried her back to the village. Oh, I got a scare today. I thought my camera got stolen. I put my right
hand on my pocket at one time and it wasn’t there. It turned out one of the girls took it because she wanted to take pictures and I didn’t know. Thankfully I got it back and everything was alright. I am very glad I went to Sabolciu today. It was great to spend time with the children!
Today is the 9/11 anniversary for the tragic event that happened 10 years ago where nearly 3,000 people died including 24 Canadians. I have been thinking a lot about those families that have been directly affected by this. I just pray for God’s healing and comfort for those people who are still experiencing the loss of their loved ones.
This evening I watched a movie about what happened on September 11, 2001. It gave me the inside perspective on what happened in the air traffic control towers and one of flights. The movie focused on flight United 93 which was the one that they think was suppose to go to the White House but ended up crashing into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The people on that flight are heroes because they stopped the terrorists from attacking the White House. If you are interested in watching the movie it is called “United 93”.
After I watched the movie I checked out the news about the memorial service that happened in New York City on the CTV website. There were video links of the events that happened for the special 10th anniversary of the memorial service they had. All of the names of the people that died were read by family members at the ceremony. It must have been quite an emotional time for the family especially since the memorial sight opened up for the first time and they could see the names of the people who died on them.
Despite the decision by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to not include religious leaders as part of the 9/11 ceremony, religious references still made its way into the ceremony in the addresses by other government leaders such as former President George W. Bush and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
I was surprised to see that President Obama read scripture (Psalm 46), former President George W. Bush read the “Bixby letter” of condolence that President Abraham Lincoln wrote in 1864 to a mother who lost five sons in the Civil War and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani also read scripture (Ecclesiastes 3:1-9).
This evening I also spoke to my parents on Skype for almost 30 minutes. It was good to talk to them. Right now they are in Myrtle Beach with my brother. They are there for a week’s vacation and staying suite near the beach. I wish I was there with them. Oh, well I did get a week’s vacation with my parents in Sarasota, Florida in May which was nice. I’m sure they will have a great week!
