August Romania Update!

  September 11, 2011

Dear Family and Friends,

I hope you are doing well. Can you believe that the summer is already over? Sometimes I wonder where the time goes! I hope you had a wonderful summer vacation with your family and friends.

Our Amazing Summer Interns

This summer we were blessed with five interns that came to serve alongside our staff which is quite the switch from just one intern we had last summer! I am so grateful for God bringing Kelsey, Kim, Kaitlyn and Daniel to Romania for two months (June 10th – August 10th) and also for Esther who came for one month (July 2nd – August 2nd). I thought it was neat how God brought Daniel back to Romania, after 9 years since his adoption. He was able to share with the children here how he was an orphan and the hope that Christ has given us. All of the interns have such great hearts for God and for the kids which was such

an inspiration to me.

It was wonderful for me personally to join in on some of the program that the interns did this past summer. They did a week of VBS at the Sabolciu gypsy village. Their theme was on the fruits of the Spirit. The children loved the skits, songs, games and crafts that we did throughout the week! We went to the Tinca gypsy village a couple of days to do a VBS program with the children there. It was so great to minister to children in another gypsy village and I was surprised how many kids showed up (around 70)! The interns joined us at the summer orphan camp in July and they did different activities with the orphans throughout the summer. I am so grateful they came too, I will definitely miss them and I hope they will come back to Romania!

My first Romanian wedding!

I went to Târgu Mures for a weekend in August which was a very special time because my best friend Cristina got married! It was such a blessing beyond what I could put into words to be able to attend Cristina and Adi’s wedding on Saturday August 13th. Cristina was my very first Romanian friend that God gave me when I first moved to Romania in 2007. I am very grateful to have her in my life because of the close friendship that we have. When I lived in Târgu Mures we were prayer partners and we even lived together for almost a

year too.

The wedding was beautiful and we ate so much food at the reception! One thing that was a bit different for me was there were no bride maids or groom men and also no wedding gifts (instead the guests gave money). God gave us a beautiful sunny day!  On Sunday before I returned to Oradea I was able to visit my former home church in Reghin which was another blessing from God! I am so grateful that I was able to stay with Steve, Liz and their daughter Elisa. They are good friends of mine and I also used to work with them when I lived there so it was great to see them again. It was a very special weekend and it was wonderful to so see my friends again!

A church retreat in the mountains

I had not originally planned on attending a church retreat this summer but I do believe now that God had it in His plans for me to go. When I first moved to Oradea last year I went to Viată Nouă (New Life) church for a few months but then I switched to another church when a friend of mine invited me to try his church. I enjoyed going to Salem church for a while however when I returned to Romania in June I decided to go back to Viată Nouă church because it is a much smaller church, closer to where I live and I also knew some people from my former small group. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to go to the church retreat and for the encouragement I received to go.

I went on the retreat the weekend of August 26th to 28th. I had such a great time and it was

just beautiful where it was held! We stayed at the River Sound Retreat Centre which is located two hours south-east of Oradea and right in the heart of the Apuseni mountains. I am not a person who usually takes initiative to start a conversation or introduce myself to people but I really believe God gave me the courage to do that as He helped me to step out of my comfort zone the whole weekend. I really felt like a sense of belonging throughout my time there in how people took interest in getting to know me and how they encouraged me with my Romanian too.  It was a blessing to be able to go on a hike to see the Bohodei waterfalls which ran down the mountain and it was just beautiful! I decided to make this church my home church now.

 Praise Reports!

  • I praise God for the summer interns that He brought to Romania and for their incredible hearts!
  • I praise God for the opportunity to attend my best friend Cristina’s wedding and to go to the church retreat! I am so grateful for all of the friends that God has blessed me with here.
  • I praise God that I am able to spend Sunday afternoons with the children at Sabolciu!

 Prayers Requests:

  • For our ministry both with the orphan and gypsy children as we start new programs this fall.
  • For God to continue to develop the new friendships that have began just recently at church.
  • For my new Romanian volunteer one-year visa. The laws have changed as of August 1, 2011 and there are no more humanitarian visas so now I have to apply for a new visa and all of my papers must be in by September 16th. This is very urgent to be lifted up before God.
  • For God to place His hands of favour upon the process with Pathway to Joy Canada.

I would like to thank-you for all of your encouragement and also for your prayers as well!

Many blessings,
