Christmas Party with the Orphan Kids!

Friday December 9, 2011

I had another great day with the team today! We met later in the morning around

Florica and I

11:00am today because we pretty much had everything prepared for the day so it was nice to have a bit of time just to hang out together at the house. Florica made a delicious homemade lunch of soup, sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls) and a salad. This week I have felt very spoiled with all of these home cooked meals that Florica has been making! Usually we just eat sandwiches for lunch with teams so I sure didn’t expect this. What a blessing from God that Florica has been cooking for the team and staff this week!

Sabina and Rudy happily married!

We had a surprise today before we went to the orphan Christmas party. We went to a civil wedding ceremony with the signing of the official papers for two of the older orphans that got married today! I didn’t expect that we would be going to this so it was a really nice surprise and it was great to see how the civil wedding ceremonies are like here in Romania. It was only around 15 minutes but it was a neat experience for all of us including me. Congratulations to Rudy and Sabina!!

Today was our last Christmas party for the kids and it went really well! We gave all the children/teens at the orphanage a Christmas party which so great and the kids had so much fun. We rented a large room in the basement of the hotel near the

Lenuta, Ana Maria, Andreea and Sandi.

orphanage. It was kind of crowded in the room where we were but we made it work and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

We began our program by just hanging out and socializing with the older kids while the younger kids did a couple of the crafts (decorating the ornaments and colouring the paper bags). I sat with some of the younger teen girls that I am close to and it was great to spend some time with them throughout the evening. We ate a delicious dinner (chicken and mashed potatoes and cakes for dessert) and we had a time of singing Christmas carols.

Today was the last day we did the drama of the Christmas nativity story. The children and teens enjoyed the drama and what a great way to share the gospel at Christmas time! Then last but not least we called each child by name and gave them their Christmas presents. The kids loved their gifts and it was awesome to see their faces light up with smiles!! What a great day it was and it is hard to believe that tomorrow will already be the team’s last day here in Romania.
