Christmas Day – December 25, 2011

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.                                                                                  – Isaiah 9:6

Here in Romania at church we say to each other in Romanian “Hristos s-a născut!” (Christ is born) and in response you say “Adevarat s-a născut!”(It’s true he is born). This is something that I learned today at church and I thought it was neat so I wanted to share it with you.

Today I really missed my family but I am very grateful that I did not have to spend

Dinner with the Haines family.

Christmas Day alone. Steve and Tiffiny who are missionaries here (they are from California) with their four children invited me to spend the day with them. It was such a great and relaxing day. I went to church with them and then the rest of the day we spent it at their house. We had a delicious dinner and for the first time I ate duck which was pretty good. It was a lot of fun to spend time with younger children today and we even celebrated their daughter Abigail’s first birthday!

In the evening I came home to spend time with Minnie (my cat) and make some phone calls to my family and relatives. Today all of my Mom’s side of the family gathered together for the Christmas celebration at my Grandma’s house. It was such a blessing to call my Grandma’s house and talk to my parents, my brother, my Grandma, my uncle, my aunt and my cousins!

I love my family very much and I also miss them a lot! I wish I could have been there with them today because during the holidays is when I miss my family the most however I’m grateful that I was able to still get in touch with them today. I am so grateful for Skype! I don’t know what I would do without it. 🙂

This year like all years I refuse to say “Happy Holidays” and I have been more conscious to say Merry Christmas to everyone I meet during this time. This is my way of saying that I am celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I personally don’t care about “Political Correctness” because Jesus is the real reason why we celebrate Christmas and I’m not ashamed of that!

I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Day with your family as you celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Today our Saviour Jesus is born! Merry Christmas everyone!! Crăciun Fericit toată lumea!!

About Andrea

I am from Whitby, Ontario. I have lived in Romania for 9 years as a missionary but I am currently in Canada on a sabbatical break at this time. I have also lived in South Korea for a year and I have also been to Russia, Uganda, Albania and the Czech Republic on short-term mission trips. In 2012, God also gave me an amazing opportunity to go to Mozambique for the Harvest Mission School with Iris Ministries as well. I love children, reaching out to people who are in need and vulnerable, I have a passion to fight against the injustice issue of human trafficking and to simply share the love of Jesus wherever I go. I also love cats too and I have a cat of my own named Minnie!
