“But now this is what the Lord says – he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Isaiah 43:1-2

I had such an amazing time for my quiet time with the Lord this morning! I got up around 6:00am and I had such an incredible time in the presence of the Lord. I began my quiet time with singing some worship songs, then I felt God speak to my heart to pray in tongues for 45 minutes to an hour (I don’t think I had prayed in tongues that long in such a concentrate time before but I did it anyway) which was such an amazing intimate time God gave me with Him.

Towards the end of the time I believe the Lord gave me to pray in tongues, God started to speak to my heart and I just praise Him for filling me up with so much encouragement. The scripture passage I wrote in this blog entry – Isaiah 43:1-2 is one of the verses that God spoke to me and another one was 2 Timothy 1:7 (“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.”). The Lord also spoke these words to me over and over again to “fear not”. God is so good!!

If you are reading this blog entry and you can pray in tongues I just want to encourage you to pray more in the Spirit because God wants to speak to you so much more and bring revelations to you that you might not be able to receive when you just pray in your native language. For me personally I have been praying a lot more in tongues lately and I have been growing so much in my prayer life.

Today I just finished reading an excellent book about this very topic called “Tongues Beyond the Upper Room” written by Kenneth E. Hagin. I have been praying in tongues for years but I didn’t really know a lot about it except I just knew it was a good thing to do it. I don’t know why but the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not taught in the church so much but they should be so we can know and understand more of their purposes and how the gifts are functioned.

I am so grateful that my Pastor lent me this book because I have learned so much of what the purpose and the power of praying in tongues. I am so thankful of how the Lord brought so many revelations to me through this book of why it is important to pray in tongues and not just at church or even just for a few minutes like I did in the past. I love how this book is filled with scripture and powerful illustrations from the author’s prayer life and other people’s lives. The book also looks at some common objections to and misconceptions about tongues and the author explains the true scriptural purposes of tongues.

Here’s a quote from the book that I really, really like: “I’m telling you, you’re going to have to learn how to answer the devil with the word if you’re ever going to amount to anything in the Lord.” I really like it a lot because it reminded me when I read that of how important  it is to use the word of God in a daily spiritual battle against the enemy. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, he used scripture every time to defeat him (Matthew 4:1-11). So, let’s whip Satan with the word of God because it is our best weapon against him!

I would like to highly recommend this book to everyone if you truly desire to tap into this supernatural gift so you can fulfill God’s highest purpose for your life! Trust me your prayer life will never be the same again as God takes you deeper as you commune with your Heavenly Father. I have definitely been encouraged and challenged to pray more in tongues so I’m sure you will too if you read this book.

In the evening I went to church for our Thursday midweek service. It was a great evening in the presence of God as we sought the Lord together! What a great day!
