“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”
Today I had a very, very busy day. I spent some time with God, did my laundry, read a few chapters of the book I have been reading and wrote twelve new entries for my blog, then in the evening it was pretty busy with my workers training class from 5:00 – 6:50pm and then my Bible study group at Patrick and Joy’s from 7:00 – 9:00pm. It was a busy day but a very good day because I got a lot of things accomplished today.
We had a really great discussion for the Bible study that we did this evening. Today we started looking at heavenly rewards and the first one we looked at was the crown of life. In Revelation 2:10b it says “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Did you know the Christian music group – Casting Crowns has based their group name on Revelation 4:10? This is what the verse says “the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying.” My heart expresses the same thing when I get to heaven, I too want to lay down before God any rewards that I may receive and give it back to God.
We also looked at a number of different scripture verses and passages like James 1:2 – 4, Job 42:1 – 6 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. We talked about how it is difficult to go through difficulties and trials but these times also help us to grow as well. I told the group how over the last few months I have been going through a lot of struggles and spiritual battles that have been difficult but at the same time I have really been growing in my relationship with God a lot more lately.
When we spoke about the scripture verse – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”), it launched a short discussion that I wasn’t planning on at all because it challenged me so much that it even brought conviction to me.
From this scripture verse I basically told them that I really desire to get up early in the morning (6:00am) to spend time with God but I often fall into the trap of the temptation to fall back to sleep after my alarm goes off. Though sometimes I don’t go back to sleep but quite often I do turn off my alarm and go back to sleep. I told the group that I really don’t have “a way to escape…” and beat this laziness that I have in the morning but I really believe that God wants me to get up at this particular time and spend time with Him because it is the least distracting time of the whole day.
Then Patrick and Joy gave me “homework” to find at least one scripture verse in the Old Testament and one scripture verse in the New Testament that relates to this topic of getting up early and spend time with God. They challenged me to memorize those verses and if I still have trouble with getting up in the morning to be accountable to someone everyday and send that person an e-mail or a SMS text message every morning by 6:15am to say that I’m wake.
I really have to stop making so many excuses for myself and beat this laziness out of me. Honestly if I really desire to grow in my relationship with God which I do, then I have to really start disciplining myself in certain areas of my life. Here are the scripture verses that I found which I have started to memorize: Here’s the one in the Old Testament: “Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord.” (Genesis 19:27). Here’s the one in the New Testament: “Very early in the morning while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35).
Currently Patrick and Joy started a Romanian course that started a few weeks ago. Today they asked me if I was interested in joining because they still need more students. After talking to Joy more about it, I am very interested in joining especially because it is an intensive class (6 hours a week for the next 3 months) and it is absolutely free and with a free book too! There is no fee with this course because it is offered to all foreigners who have a Romanian visa permit card and it is through the immigration office and also through the EU.
This course is taught by a professional Romanian teacher, it is a class setting with 12 other international students, the class is twice a week, 6 hours a week and it runs until the end of June. When I asked Joy about when the days and times are during the week I was pretty excited that it will actually work in my schedule and I’m sure this will definitely help me improve with my Romanian a lot faster than how it is now. I praise God that I don’t have to worry about even paying for this course because I actually had to discontinue my Romanian lessons because of financial reasons even though I shouldn’t have. Wow, what an amazing opportunity that God has opened up to me! I’m thankful that I had a good day!
