January Update 2014

January 5, 2014

Dear Family and Friends,

I hope you are doing well! Can you believe that the year 2013 has finished and we are already in the beginning of the month of January? I hope you had a very blessed Christmas and New Year’s celebration with your family and friends at home.

Lecture Phase has finished
It is hard to believe how fast the 12 weeks of the lecture phase of my Discipleship Training School has gone by and is now over! Wow, where does the time go? I am so very thankful for the opportunity that God gave me to do “life together” with the five other students and all of the staff as we lived together in community, sought God’s face in worship and prayer and learned at Jesus’ feet from all of the amazing teachers that God brought to the YWAM SONY DSCbase. I feel very blessed beyond what I could put into words how this has been such a precious time from God of growth for me even though it has also been a time of stretching and pruning as well.

I praise God for all of the sweet times that He gave me in His presence and for increasing my hunger for Him. I give God praise that He “birthed” the prophetic gift in me and during the lecture phase He gave me many opportunities to grow in it. I am thankful for how God taught me the importance of what reconciliation is all about and how to do it in a way that is godly and honoring. I am very grateful for God continually teaching me what it means to walk in a deeper level of love, humility and to do it with a humble and teachable heart. I don’t have enough space to share everything here of all of the stories of what God has done in my life during those 12 weeks. God is just so good!

An Interruption in my DTS
On Friday December 13th it was a day to rejoice with all of the students and the staff as we had a huge “love fest” breakfast and a prayer send off to depart for our two month outreach for our DTS. God gave us a vision and a passion in our hearts to bring hope to the nations of Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary and Czech Republic from December 13th to February 14th. However for me personally my heart was crushed beyond what I could put into words because I could not leave with my class on the outreach. I had no idea when I indexbegan my DTS at the beginning that there would be a huge interruption right in the middle of it so I could not continue with my class onto the outreach.

During the second last week of the Discipleship Training School I noticed that my left knee felt very stiff and sore and then the last week of the lecture phase it went to extreme pain to the point that I ended up going to the emergency at the hospital. X-rays were done, a MRI was done, other tests were done; I saw a couple of specialists to get to the bottom of it. I found out the end result from Dr. Octav Rusu who is an orthopedic doctor and he also specialist in the knees as well. He told me that I have a torn meniscus and my ACL has also been stretched too.

I will need to have surgery and it has been scheduled for Tuesday January 7th at the Nova Vita private hospital here in Târgu Mureş, Romania. The surgery will cost about $1,600 CAD. If you are at all interested in donating towards it please let me know. I will complete my outreach with another DTS class at another time this year so I can get my knee taken care of right now.

“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Holiday Celebrations in Romania
I have been in Romania since 2007 but it is still a struggle for me with homesickness during the Christmas holidays. The last time I was home in Canada for Christmas was in 2009. I was hoping to go home this time but it wasn’t possible because of the DTS however I am so very encouraged by the Lord of how He always provides a family for me to spend IMG_1066-cropChristmas with. My heart is filled with so much gratitude of how God has placed Philip and April in my life here where I live! They are missionaries from New Zealand and they have amazing hearts as they reach out to the poor and needy people here. I go to church with them and I am very grateful for the friendship that God has given us. When I found out I’d be in Romania for Christmas and not on my outreach I felt very blessed that they invited me to spend Christmas Day with them along with another missionary family and some older orphan girls. We had a wonderful day together and the food was very delicious too!

I spent New Year’s Eve at my home church for our service which was amazing to bring in the New Year in with the presence of God, with amazing worship, a powerful sermon on declaring God’s word boldly, delicious food and of course wonderful people who are filled with so much love!

Praise Reports!
• I praise God for my DTS lecture phase and how I grew in my relationship with Him.
• I praise God for teaching me to trust in Him and to lean on Him more during difficult times.
• I praise God for giving me such wonderful friends here in Romania who are such a blessing.

Prayer Requests:
• For God to fill me more with His divine supernatural peace and for me to rest in His arms of love as He carries me through this time in my life.
• For God to be with the doctors and the nurses at the hospital when I get my surgery done on my left knee on Tuesday January 7th and also that I will have a quick recovery as well.
• For God’s guidance and a new open door for me to complete my DTS outreach in His timing.

I would like to say a very special thank-you to everyone who has sown seeds of blessings into my life last year with financial support, prayers and encouragement through e-mails, facebook and Skype calls. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me and standing with me in what God has called me to do as I serve God as a missionary here in Romania! I appreciate it so very much!
