The lecture phase has now been finished and the outreach phase has begun for the DTS class 2014/2015. Wow, where does the time go?! The weeks of the lecture phase have been so enriching to be a part of the student’s journey with them and also encourage them along the way. It was such a blessing to be able to start to mentor Janet, lead some small groups, and go out with the students on prayer walks and also on the local outreaches. The worship and the intercession times in the mornings have been amazing to seek God together, the 24 hour prayer time that we had last month was incredible and of course we were so blessed to be able to have some amazing teachers come and pour into us.
At the beginning of September of last year when I started to pray and ask God where He would like us to go for the outreach location I was very surprised when He spoke to me a country that I wasn’t expecting at all which was Cambodia because it was not on my heart before and then the Lord started to open up my eyes to the heart breaking issue of human trafficking. I do believe that God is calling me to take an outreach team there especially to reach out to the hurting girls and to the young children but I do not think it is the right time yet as I feel in my heart the Lord wants to prepare me more before He sends me there with a team.
Cambodia has definitely been burning on my heart for months and God has been speaking to me so much about it but I believe that God has a perfect timing when He calls us to do something so as much as I really, really want to go right now I need to wait on God’s timing and for now to completely lay Cambodia down at the feet of Jesus in full surrender to Him.
During our DTS staff prayer times in November of last year God didn’t speak to any other
staff about Cambodia so this is why I feel in my heart that it is not the right yet.
God spoke to two staff on our team Estonia and also two other staff Albania for the outreach location. In the end we decided that we would like to all stay together as one team and not split up into two groups since we are a small class and we will go to Albania for the outreach location from February 22nd – April 8th, 2015. Our DTS outreach team consists of seven people and we have four different nationalities within our team (Canadian, American, Ukrainian and Hungarian). There is three staff on the team (Marianna, Lindsay and I) and four students (Michael, Mitzi, Janet and Zsuzsa). I love each and every person that is on the team and I’m so very excited to be a part of it as well!
Janet who is one of our DTS students had to go to Albania earlier (she left on February
5th) because of a visa situation but thankfully she was able to join the DTS class in Durres, Albania so she was able to finish her lecture phase there. The rest of the team will be flying out from Sibiu, Romania tomorrow morning at 6:05am, we’ll connect through Munich and then we will arrive in Tirana, Albania at 10:50am.
For the DTS outreach we will spend the first four weeks in Durres, Albania where we will be doing different ministry activities with the YWAM base there like praying for the sick, evangelism, doing a children’s camp, etc. During the second half of our time in Albania we will be at the YWAM base in Elbasan for two weeks and we will be working with a Roma gypsy community there where we will do different ministry activities with the children, youth and the families.
We would definitely appreciate your prayers for the outreach while we will be in Albania.
Here are some prayer requests that you could be praying for during our time there:
• For God’s provision for every team member
• For God’s protection as we travel to Albania and throughout the country
• For close unity along our outreach team and also for us to have a good connection with our contacts there
• For God to give us creative ideas of how to go about doing the different ministries with the people that we will serve there along the children, youth, adults, Roma gypsies, the church, etc
• For God to bring His Kingdom and His presence wherever we go throughout our outreach
• For God to bring salvation, healing and a transformation to people’s lives that we will minister to
• For God to bring an encouragement to the missionaries and the churches in Albania
• For God to give us His heart for the nation of Albania during our time there.
